Server Virtualization
Many companies must retain a large quantity of servers to house the various applications which require their own server, even though the full capability of each server is only partially used, often only 5-15%. Installing two applications on a single server may create conflict and cancel warranties.
Server Virtualization allows for one physical server to house four, or in some instances up to 8 virtual servers. Each virtual server acts as an individual server, not recognizing that it is one of several. Therefore, all requirements of a physical server are met through this virtual version, allowing a company to possess a fraction of the physical servers they would normally have. While the capability and user experience remain unchanged. With the use of Server Virtualization, utilization increases from 5-15% to 60-80%.
The benefits of fewer servers due to Server Virtualization:
- less expenditure in the purchase of the servers themselves and in hardware
- less energy consumption – up to 75% energy savings
- less HVAC to keep the area cool
- less space to house fewer servers, reducing the carbon footprint
- less support and maintenance to keep them up and running
